The Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise made up many of our childhoods with sick tricks and amazing soundtracks… and it’s making a comeback this year!
Activision announced that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is currently being remastered by Vicarious Visions and will be released as a games collection that's available September, 2020!
The remastered games collection will include original levels, skaters, tricks , modes, and soundtrack (yes get ready to hear “Superman” again)!
Nostalgic gamers will be able to play the remastered games available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Game Store and it will introduced some new moves that's not featured in the original games like reverts and more!
You’ll also get access to the Warehouse Demo before the game launches if you purchase the digital pre-order and you’ll get a limited Tony Hawk Mini Fingerboard if you were to purchase the physical version!
For super fans of the game, you can also purchase the Collector’s Edition that will come with all the deluxe edition content plus a full-size, limited edition skateboard deck from Birdhouse and is an exclusive reissue of the iconic Flacon 2 design.
"Each deck features a printed Tony Hawk autograph and randomised vibrant wood stains across the top,” wrote the description.
This is not the first remaster that Vicarious Visions (VV) has worked on with the nearly flawless remaster of the early trilogy of the Crash Bandicoot series, and VV also employed the original handling code from THPS 1 devs Neversoft.
Vicarious Visions' Jennifer Oneal said that the core of the controls players will remember is intact, although players can switch between classic and modern control schemes and revealed that they want to “match inch by inch the geometry so those lines feel exactly the same that they were before.”
“We didn't want to change anything because the reality is your muscle memory sets in and you're automatically hitting the buttons the way you remember it. But the one thing that we did have to put a little extra attention on, because back then qhat didn't exist were the analog sticks,” she said.
The remaster is confirmed to feature hallmark missions like collecting SKATE letters, secret tapes and more from the original game and also introduced some new challenges.
You can also play competitive online play or play locally with the split screen multiplayer feature and you can also share your dream park creation online in the Create-a-Park and Create-a-Skater modes!
Jen also revealed one of the most important part of the original franchise – the soundtrack, will return with favourites like “Guerrilla Radio” and “Superman” and “only a small handful” that they couldn’t get the licensing rights for.
The announcement is certainly one of the biggest remaster news that's come in recent months and we can’t wait for the release!
