WhatsApp just introduced an update to its status update feature—and it’s text-based.
Now, users can make creative status updates using their choice of font, background colour, and they have the choice to add links.
It’s almost exactly like Facebook’s status updates where, instead of just plain text, you can pick a colourful background and use larger fonts to grab attention. Plus, you can also share links with your WhatsApp-mates.

Previously, WhatsApp’ status update was more like the Stories feature on the company’s other platforms—Facebook and Instagram—which allows users to share pictures and videos that expire after 24 hours. However, it wasn’t a success, so WhatsApp converted it back to text.
This new status update feature is currently being rolled out for the app on iOS and Android. You’ll also be able to see these status updates on WhatsApp Web.
