The Financial Times recently reported that a vulnerability was discovered on the messaging app that enables exploiters to inject commercial spyware onto both Android and iOS phones, simply by calling the target.
According to security researchers and confirmed by WhatsApp, the spyware can be installed without a trace and doesn’t need the WhatsApp user to answer the call for it to take effect.

Once the spyware has been installed onto the target’s phone, it can turn on the phone’s camera and mic, scan emails and messages, and collect the user’s location data. That’s definitely not safe for any of us.
The 1.5 billion global users who are currently on the app are encouraged to update WhatsApp as soon as possible to immediately close the security hole.
An official statement from WhatsApp reads:
“WhatsApp encourages people to upgrade to the latest version of our app, as well as keep their mobile operating system up to date, to protect against potential targeted exploits designed to compromise information stored on mobile devices.”
So don’t wait any longer! Keep safe and update your WhatsApp right now!
