Malaysians have adapted to the new normal with SOPs like scanning the MySejahtera app and registering your details when you enter a , but this man failed to do so.

A report recently went viral after a man was fined RM10,000 for failing to scan or register his details while visiting a restaurant.

The man reportedly did not register his details at the restaurant in Bukit Jalil on 11 March and was issued a compound.

“The task force has issued a compound on an individual for not scanning the MySejahtera app or registered his details manually on the registration book prepared,” said Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon.

The incident reportedly took place during an inspection by the compliance operation task force at 6:55pm.

“A compound of RM10,000 was issued on those who violated the SOP in accordance to the Emergency Ordinance,” he added.

He also dismissed claims on the internet saying the man had registered using other means saying, “allegation that the individual had supposedly registered using other means is not true.”

He also explained that the actual amount of the compound will be decided by the Health Ministry’s district health officer (PKD) and the final decision will be at the PKD’s discretion even though the maximum amount for the compound is set at RM10,000.

Police are only authorized to issue the compounds to the offenders who disobeyed the COVID-19 SOPs.

The news came after the new enforcement of RM10,000 compound fines that was effective 11th March.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador previously said that the new fine is not for all offences of breaking standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The RM10,000 will only be imposed on those who repeatedly breach the movement control order (MCO) and those who cause or trigger the spread of COVID-19.

“We admit that many people misunderstand (the move) and worry about the compound amount of up to RM10,000,” the Inspector-General said. “It is not for all offences, including failure to wear a face mask properly.”

“It is for certain offences, namely for those who are stubborn by committing the offences repeatedly as well as those who violate the SOPs, including (unauthorized) interstate travel, causing the spread of COVID-19,” he continued.

Remember to scan using your MySejahtera app and register your details wherever you go!
