Since the implementation of MCO 2.0, we’ve all had to re-adjust to the new SOPs that have been introduced to help curb the spread of COVID-19. This of course, includes gatherings.

However, it seems that there are some individuals who still refuse to heed by the rules.

Recently, 17 individuals were fined for gathering to celebrate a birthday at a home in Makam Mahsuri, Langkawi.

After noticing many vehicles outside the home at around 1am, the Langkawi police force - who were monitoring MCO SOPs in the area, found the group of individuals celebrating.

Langkawi District Police Chief, assistant commissioner Shariman Ashari shared that the police team found and arrested 17 individuals between the ages of 20-32 years-old gathered in the home.

“The police’s inspection found 17 individuals made up of 13 men and four women had gathered and were celebrating a birthday,” the assistant commissioner said.

“All the individuals were arrested and brought to the Kuah Police Station to be processed and they were fined a total of RM1,000 each.”

Shariman also shared that monitoring of SOPs especially in public areas will be enhanced and continued throughout the MCO period in Langkawi.

The assistant commissioner also adviced the public to adhere to the SOPs that have been set by the National Security Council (MKN).

As MCO 2.0 continues, please remember to follow the SOPs that have been set to avoid getting compounded. This includes the SOPs for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

Remember, the rules are set for your safety and the safety of those around you.
