When travelling, many of us would spend our time enjoying ourselves with local adventures and taking many pictures and videos for keepsakes.

Two women however may not want to relive one of their travelling adventures as it nearly cost them their lives.

In some countries, some of their tourist’s attractions include a large swing that can usually fit up to two people, that’s usually set in a beautiful location with stunning scenery.

In the Sulak Canyon in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, on the Caspian Sea, one such swing exists but this one hangs on the edge of a 6,300ft (1,920m) cliff.

A popular tourist spot, many have taken a ride of this extreme swing but unfortunately for a pair of women, the swing snapped when they were on it.

If your heart stopped reading that, ours did too and the videos that went viral from that almost-fatal incident, will have us forever questioning the safety of swings.

Fortunately, the women did not lose their lives from the terrifying experience and only sustained minor injuries.

From the video, it definitely looks like the two women had fallen off the 1,920m cliff and towards their doom but thankfully, their lives were saved by a small wooden platform that was located just beyond the cliff edge, which broke their fall.

Their shocked relatives immediately pulled them back to safety.

The police are currently looking into the incident and investigating the safety of several canyon swings that have been built near Zubutli village – where the nightmare-inducing incident took place.

Speaking to the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, a source shared that “The girls got scared and sustained scratches, but neither of them suffered serious injuries.

“It is chilling to imagine what could have happened if they slipped when the swings were at a maximum height.”

According to reports, the local Kazbekovsky council is expected to demand that such precipice swings be removed.

The Ministry of Tourism in Dagestan confirmed that the swing that snapped “did not meet safety standards”.

“As a result, the young women fell off the swing set,” their statement read.

“Law enforcement agencies and other services are already conducting relevant checks to ensure that nothing threatens lives and health.”

Well. We’re definitely gonna be thinking twice, maybe… thrice, before we even think about getting on a swing like this in the future.

Remember, just because it’s a tourist attraction and everyone else seems safe doing it, doesn’t mean you have too to…

Always prioritise your safety.

Have you ever been on a swing like this before? What was your reaction on seeing the video of the women? Let us know!
