2018 mind run & carnival

2018 MIND RUN & CARNIVAL

Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA)

6th October 2018, Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil

  1. Who are we?
  • We are a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting community mental wellbeing and providing mental health services for persons affected by mental health issues.
  • MMHA strives to spread mental health awareness, destigmatise mental health issues and challenge misconceptions of mental illnesses in our community.
  • We provide service for people with mental health problems (consultation and therapy), day-psychosocial rehab and residential facility for people recovering from severe mental illness, caregiver support and respite, as well as public and corporate education.

  1. The event
  • On 6th October 2018 in conjunction with World Mental Health Day that falls on 10th October each year.
  • To be held at Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil—directly opposite Asia Pacific University.
  • Comprises of 2 components: a Run (5 and 10km) and Carnival.
  1. Why are we holding the event?
  • As a community inclusion initiative.
  • To promote mental wellbeing by building on mental health literacy in our community.
  • We strongly believe that building better mental health literacy will contribute to more effective prevention, earlier detection and better management of mental health problems in our community.
  • Target participants: Young people (18 - 40)
  • It’s held in line with WMHD’s tagline, “Young people and mental health in the changing world” and MMHA’s 50th anniversary.
  • To showcase partnerships in mental health between corporate companies, universities as well as non-profit organisations.

  1. Why a night run?
  • The night represents the stigma and darkness surrounding the topic of mental health.
  • Runners will be given neon shirts and glow bands to symbolise the act of lighting up the darkness, and the tagline for the event is “Let’s light up the darkness together.”

  1. The carnival
  • The main aim of the carnival is to promote social inclusion and showcase partnerships in mental health.
  • At the carnival, there’ll be vendor booths and tune-in booths.
  • The vendor booths will consist of food, retail, etc.
  • The tune-in booths will consist of mental health awareness booths, experiential booths, mental health screenings, etc.
