If you’re heading to Taiwan for the first time, then you probably already know all the tourist spots you’ll be visiting, like the Taipei 101 and the famous Jiufen, which inspired Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.
One thing you shouldn’t miss out on, though, is Taiwanese desserts! They’re delicious and perfect for a pick-me-up after a day of sightseeing or a heavy, flavourful meal. They’re also really pretty to look at, and would make a great collection on Instagram.
Read on to find out what you should try!
#1 Baobing (shaved ice)

People have been eating baobing for more than 1,000 years! They’re essentially shaved ice but you can have it in different flavours… and shapes, like this one:
#2 Bunny tarts
Taiwan is the land of all things cute, including their desserts. This bunny tart is made out of yoghurt and passion fruit and is put on top of a lemon tart. Will you eat it? Yes, after admiring it for a long time!
#3 Almond tofu
Take your tofu experience to a whole new level in Taiwan. The almond tofu is a favourite there, sometimes served with mochi balls and shaved ice, letting you have the best of both worlds. 😉
#4 Papaya milk
Quench your thirst after a long day with papaya milk! This can easily be found at night markets—a perfect way to end the day after browsing around for street food and souvenirs.
#5 Aiyu jelly
Aiyu jelly is made out of a fig tree that’s indigenous to Taiwan. It’s especially popular during the summer, no doubt because it can make you feel so refreshed!
#6 Peanut ice-cream roll
It looks like a popiah… except there’s peanut butter and ice-cream inside! Mind = blown!
