The past couple of years have been tough on people in the workforce, but it was especially difficult for fresh graduates. With the economy going down, a majority of companies put a freeze on hiring, which led to many graduates struggling to get a job.

Talentbank, an award-winning global employer branding, recruitment, market research, and education company, ran a Graduates Choice Award (GCA) 2022 survey recently among 23,098 graduates to find out what they look for in a potential employer, and which companies they want to work for.

These are what young grads look for when applying for jobs:

 #1 Salary and bonuses

According to the survey, 27.64% of graduates voted for RM2,501 - RM3,000 as their preferred range for their first salary. Meanwhile, 23.45% of them would settle for the RM2,001 - RM2,500 range.

#2 Career development

Having a good chance of excelling in their career is also very important as nobody wants to be stuck in a dead-end job with no skills or experience to carry them forward.

#3 Good bosses

Who wouldn’t want a good boss, amirite? But someone who can teach and lead well is very important, especially when starting out your career.

#4 Learning and development opportunities

Getting guidance to perfecting a skill and then an opportunity to try new experiences is very important to graduates too.

#5 Work-life balance

Working from home has created a blurred line in working hours, therefore, an employer who values work-life balance is essential.
