Are you a law student? Considering a law degree? Here are 6 common misconceptions you'll likely face...
1. You must be boring and serious
On the contrary, studying law requires a lot of creativity and out of the box thinking! Besides... whilst some students may take the more serious route, not everyone is the same!

2. You wear a robe to class every day

This... is just not true.
3. You always have to be right and won't admit when you're wrong
One thing's for sure. The skills you learn as a law student make you a killer debater (both in class and out).

But this doesn't automatically mean you are annoyingly pretentious. In fact, knowing when your point of view is weak can be very important to law students, who need to in turn come up with creative ways to get their point across.
4. You're only in it for the money / because your parents told you to

Some say law is a snobbish profession. Whilst some lawyers make big bucks and are in it for the money/reputation, this isn't the case for all. No matter what the initial motivator was, those who attend law school NEED to learn to enjoy their course, because it ain’t no walk in the park. #noworknoreward
5. You will suffer for the entirety of your university years

Of course, nothing worth having comes easily. It will be hard. You'll probably question your decision to study law a few times. BUT you'll also learn a lot and become a well-rounded critical thinker. Plus, you'll be surrounded by peers who you can have stimulating conversations with... that can hardly be called suffering! Once you get a hang of balancing your time, a social life is definitely doable.
6. You want to be a lawyer
This one is probably the biggest, most misleading misconception out there. Of course, studying law is necessary to become a practicing lawyer or solicitor. BUT people often forget that a law degree opens many other doors to a number of interesting fields. Being a law student lets you acquire skills in debate, critical analysis, public speaking, research and more - which are incredibly useful towards any career path you choose!
So yeah, as you can see, a Law degree isn’t that as scary or boring as they say it is.
