The results are in! Melbourne has once again been named the world’s most liveable city for the seventh time running. The capital of the state of Victoria came up top in rankings in terms of stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and culture and environment.

Out of the 5 categories, we can attest to the fact that Melbourne does indeed score high points in culture and environment thanks to it being home to vibrant music festivals, a thriving art scene, and possibly the world’s best coffee.

It’s hard to go wrong with ordering coffee at any café you pop into while in Melbourne, but if you don’t have the time or caffeine tolerance to try them all, then here are 7 coffee joints you should check out…

#1 Hardware Société for their brunch experience

In case you’re not in the know, brunch is a big part of Australian culture. And you can’t very well have brunch without something to eat, which is why Hardware Société is one the best places to visit. Here, your cup of great coffee is complemented with authentic French breakfast selections such as their famous baked-eggs and chorizo.

#2 Proud Mary for its ambiance

Located in Collingwood, one of Melbourne’s hippest neighbourhoods with converted warehouses housing galleries, cafés, and quirky shops, Proud Mary is easily one the best places to check out if dining – or drinking – ambiance is important to you.

Within the confines of its exposed brick walls, you can enjoy top-notch siphon brew, all-day breakfast, cakes, and more. In case you’re wondering, yes, you can get avocado toast here. Avocado kimchi toast in fact.

#3 Cup of Truth for a hole-in-the-wall coffee experience

Like it or not, cafés draw crowds, specifically crowds that either need a place to work or crowds that are catching up with friends, which inevitably means loud noises and a shortage of vacant seats. Chances are you won’t have such problems – at least not the latter – at Cup of Truth because this hole-in-the-wall café is where you go to have some of the city’s best coffee and artisan pastries standing up.

#4 Heartattack and Vine for morning-to-almost-midnight-coffee

If you’ve ever been to Australia – or know someone who has been to Australia – then you’ll no doubt know that Australians take work life balance seriously. So serious that most establishments close by 5pm.

So, it’s a real lifesaver knowing that at Heartattack and Vine, us coffee lovers can get our fix of good speciality coffee and food from 7am to 11pm every day. Yes, you read right, every day. Because why wouldn’t you want to drink coffee every day?

#5 Axil Coffee Roasters for some nitro coffee

It’s not something we just made up. In fact, it’s the latest trend in cold coffee. Nitro coffee is brewed 500 litres at a time, filtered, and then charged with nitrogen to enhance the bubbles. As if that’s not fancy enough, it’s then poured into kegs, ready to serve over ice.

#6 League of Honest Coffee for latte brewed with boutique milk

Black coffee not your thing? That’s fine, because at League of Honest Coffee, you can get yourself a latte. But not just any latte, you’ll have the option of having your latte brewed with a wide range of boutique milks including milk sourced directly from the farm, soy, almond, and coconut and almond milk. You’re gonna love it a latte (we just had to).

#7 Patricia Coffee Brewers for their simplicity

Siphon, nitro, and boutique milk coffee are all great, but if your preference is something simple, then Patricia Coffee Brewers on Little Bourke Street is made just for you. No long list of difficult choices to be made here, just a delightfully simple menu of black, white, or filter coffee.

Speaking of Melbourne and coffee, how about being there in person to enjoy all the coffee the city has to offer and to experience the ultimate barista experience? All you gotta do to win a pair of AirAsia X tickets to Melbourne is submit a video of your most creative coffee art on Facebook or Instagram and include the hashtag #LatteFunInMelbourne!

Top 5 finalists of this online contest will be invited to the “grand finals” held in Garage 51, where they compete against each other to design the best coffee art live on FB Live. Better get to it, because deadline for video submission is on the 13th of December 2017!
