From space tourism to self-driving cars, our generation is on course to live the futuristic lives that was once only possible in movies. Yet despite how far we’ve advanced, there’s no denying that time will bring with it crazier tech that will change the way we live.

Here are 7 that we can expect to see in the not-so-far-future….

#1 Brainprint

Be the Professor X you’ve always wanted to be because soon we might see a computer system that is capable of recognising brain biometrics, which researchers say is safer than fingerprint or retina security systems. Imagine unlocking your devices with your brain, pretty cool huh?

#2 Hyperloop

If anybody can create awesome tech for the future, it’s Elon Musk. The Hyperloop is a proposed passenger and/or freight transportation where a pod travels through a sealed tube at high speed. When we say high speed, we mean at 1,200 km/h. If you think the Flash is fast, the Hyperloop is faster.

#3 Flexible smartphone

There’s no place in the future for our brick-like smartphones. Instead, they’ll be replaced with flexible ones that don’t cause an unsightly bulge in your pants and one that’s unlikely to break if you happen to drop it. You might even be able to do some origami with your flexible smartphone.

#4 Mind-reading brain implants

Imagine having the superpower to knowing how your partner is feeling; how simple it would be to then say and do the right things for him or her. Apparently, such technology is being researched and we can’t wait to see it in action. #RelationshipGoals is going to be so much easier to achieve with this.

#5 Dream sharing pillows

Through the magic of conducting fibres, the future is one that lets you share what you’re dreaming about with another person. Move aside Instagram stories and Facebook posts, dream sharing is the future.

#6 EZ Lift

EZ Lift is a sort of ‘enough is enough’ invention that encourages people to take the stairs (it’s for your own good) rather than elevator or escalator. Each person is given a certain number of credits to ‘pay’ for the usage of the lift or escalator, and the only way to earn more credits is to use the stairs.

#7 Microhouse

Imagine living in a home that fits into two parking bays, well that is what your home in the future is looking like. This tiny home is redefining the traditional home concept to help solve rapid urbanisation. It’s self-sustaining and complete with alternative energy solutions, rainwater harvesting systems, and gardens capable of producing edible produce. Of course it’s also equipped with internet-of-things technologies.

The best part about this invention is that you’ll get to help build it! From 11 to 12 August, make your way to Taylor’s Lakeside Campus and be part of Taylor’s Future Movement, an experiential event that enables students to explore, evolve, and express themselves.

Aside from the Microhouse Challenge that challenges students to contribute to a greater goal and challenge what they think they can do through a series of hands-on workshops, the two-day event will also feature speakers, one-on-one counselling, a showcase of student works, club and societies showcase, culinary showcase, and an exclusive unplugged concert!

It’s THE event you’ll definitely want to make time for if you’re a student looking to further your education… or if you simply want to discover new things.

7 crazy inventions that’ll make our future a really cool time to live in

Taylor’s Future Movement will be held on 11 August 2018 (10am - 11pm) and 12 August 2018 (10am - 5pm). For more info and to sign up for the Microhouse challenge (registration closes on 6 August 2018) visit http://bit.ly/2LGKl5j.
