We’re still fascinated by dinosaurs 66 million years after they became extinct. Why else do you think we keep reviving them in movies?
Whether they’ve made you laugh, smile, cry or cover your eyes in fright, here are some popular dinosaurs in pop culture:
#1 The Indominus Rex
You’ll recognise him from: Jurassic World movies
The new movies featuring Jurassic Park has a genetically-modified dinosaur called the Indominus Rex. According to Yahoo Movies, the dinosaur was based on an actual species called the Therizinosaurus.
#2 Grimlock
You’ll recognise him from: The Transformers movies
A member of the Autobots in the Transformers movies, Grimlock ends up helping the good guys. He’s able to transform into a mechanical Tyrannosaurus Rex.
#3 Barney
You’ll recognise him from: Barney and Friends
Who would’ve known a T-Rex can turn into a child-friendly character once you’ve coloured it purple and green? Barney has been around since 1992, and children still sing along to his theme song. Altogether now: “Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination, and when he’s tall, he’s what we call a dinosaur sensation!”
#4 Godzilla
You’ll recognise him from: Godzilla movies
This monster made its debut in Ishiro Honda’s 1954 film Godzilla and since then, there has been numerous films, TV shows, video games and comic books. Godzilla’s designs are based on dinosaurs, and its origins vary; it’s usually depicted as a prehistoric sea monster affected by radiation.
#5 Rex
You’ll recognise him from: Toy Story movies
At first glance, Rex is obviously a fearsome T-Rex toy, but he’s actually one of the most lovable, friendliest characters in Toy Story. You probably remember him being worried and insecure about his small roar, but he also comes through for his friends like Woody and Buzz Lightyear!
#6 Dino
You’ll recognise him from: The Flinstones
If you grew up in the 90s watching The Flinstones, you’d recognise Dino immediately! He’s a prosauropod-like dinosaur and is relatively small; only a bit larger than the humans of his time (which allows the Flinstones family keep him as a pet).
#7 Tiny
You’ll recognise him from: Meet The Robinsons
Meet the Robinsons isn’t the most well-known Disney movie, but you’ve probably seen this guy around on memes when you go on Twitter/Tumblr/etc because of his small arms. He appears as a foe at first in the movie, but later on turns into a pet for the Robinsons. Awww.
