One of the things we look forward to for Ramadan is the food during buka puasa time. While waiting to eat, you could also take the opportunity to take some amazing food pictures.

Here are some tricks you can try out:

#1 Front vs top angle: which one should you use?

7 tricks to help you nail the perfect food shot this ramadan season

Each angle you choose for your picture has a purpose. Taking a photo from the top has been a popular trend because of Instagram. From this angle you can fit in other props such as the ingredients and even utensils. However, this angle isn’t suitable for every type of food as it eliminates depth.

Front angle is more suitable for ‘tall’ foods such as stacks of burger or pancakes. When you’re using this angle you’re putting the focus on the height and how the food is layered—something that the top angle is unable to achieve.

#2 Make your food the focus

Have too many things on the table, but you just want to focus on the food? Increase the aperture level of your camera so that you can blur out irrelevant background. The people who are looking at your pictures will also appreciate that they know what their eyes should be concentrating on.

Our tip: Use the Aperture mode on your HUAWEI P30/P30 Pro/nova 4/nova 4e. Tap the area you want to focus on and the background will be blurred.

#3 Balance your picture out using rule of thirds

The rule of thirds is a basic but extremely helpful composition technique, which helps you take ‘balanced’ pictures. Use the assistive grid on your phone and you’ll see two horizontal and vertical lines. Then, position elements in your picture along those lines or at the points where they meet.

#4 Get closer!

Are you taking pictures of intricate foods? Then you’d definitely want to get closer or zoom into it so that you can get as much detail as you can into your photo. Plus, they’re going to look so mouth-watering!

#5 Find props so that your photos won’t be boring

Get creative with your pictures. Add some element of storytelling by putting in props. Things like a vase filled with flowers, colourful napkins, cups and cutleries. Oh! You can also add the very stylish HUAWEI P30 pro and nova 4e into your frame to complement the food.

#6 Bring your photo to life by adding a human element

Taking multiple food-only pictures can get a little soulless at times. Make it more interesting and show people extending their hand out to scoop the dishes, holding the food, and just enjoying what they’re about to eat!

#7 Use Ultra Wide lens so that you won’t miss any dishes!

Is your table crowded with delicious food? Get them all in one frame using Ultrawide lens!

This is what you’ll get when you use the HUAWEI P30 Pro’s Ultrawide lens! The HUAWEI P30 Pro has 20MP Ultra Wide lens with a 107-degree field of view, ensuring that whatever you see in front of you makes it into your picture.

Want another option? The HUAWEI nova 4/4e’s rear camera has a 24MP wide angle lens and 8MP Ultra Wide angle lens that’s perfect for this kind of shot.

You can now transfer your files easily to your laptop!

Have you taken too many food pictures? Don’t worry—you can easily transfer them using the OneHop feature available on the HUAWEI MateBook 13! It allows you to transfer photos and videos from your phone—wirelessly! All you need is a single tap of your phone on your MateBook.

It takes one minute to transfer over 500 photos and 35 seconds to transfer 1GB of video files.

Ready to level up your food pictures?

Then consider getting the HUAWEI P30, HUAWEI P30 Pro and the HUAWEI MateBook 13 priced at RM2,699, RM3,799 and RM4,399 respectively. In conjunction with Ramadan, you get to go home with free gifts too—we’re sure you’re going to love them! This promotion ends 24 May.
