Built on the strengths of the many races that call this great country home, Malaysia is a melting pot of cultures that can be easily seen in the many selections of food that we have (seriously, so many choices).
But, it’s not just our cuisine that’s wide-ranging—our eating habits are just as plentiful. Surprisingly though, it makes us the unique people that we are. Here are 8 eating habits that Malaysians should NOT give up anytime soon…
Our indecisiveness
We admit, we’re indecisive, but, we did say Malaysia has many choices when it comes to food. At least we make up for it by asking “Eh, what to eat ah?” at least 3 hours before meal time.
We are super flexible when it comes to making eating plans
Mum was wrong about us being picky and difficult because no matter how hungry we are or what we really want to eat, we’re always okay with eating anything, anywhere, anytime.
We research food like the survival of humanity depends on it
Reviews, blogs, pictures, that random person on the street, when it comes to finding out if a restaurant is worth our time, we don’t hold back. Ever.
Someway, somehow, we will make everything spicy
You know what they say, once you go spicy, you never go back. Is that not the saying? Oh, well it is now. Spicy fried chicken and nasi lemak ice cream anyone?
We’re not confined to only eating what we ordered
So much to eat, so little stomach space. Good thing we’re not shy when it comes to ‘tasting’ what our friends order. Bro, can taste ah? Mmm, spicy
Someway, somehow we will add rice to everything
Do we really need to elaborate on this? Rice with soup, rice with fried chicken, rice with mashed potatoes, rice goes well with everything. Do you think it’s a coincidence that rice rhymes with nice? We think not.
Here, there, anywhere is a good spot for eating
Sitting down to a warm delicious meal sounds like perfection but we don’t always have the luxury of finding an empty seat. But, we don’t stress over it, because we’ll just eat in the car, on our bed, while walking, or while working. Heck, we’re eating while typing this.
Someway, somehow, we will make everything cheesy
Chewy cheese balls, cheesy wedges, fried chicken with cheese sauce, cheesecake ice cream, cheese for pictures, everything is better with cheese.
