Most of the world is under their own versions of lockdown or quarantine amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
But while everyone is being responsible and staying at home, there are those who are roaming around being wild and free. And we’re not talking about humans… This time we’re talking about goats.
After 200 years of being mostly confined to limestone bluffs, packs of wild Kashmiri goats have taken over the town of Llandudno, a seaside town in northwest Wales, BuzzFeed News confirmed.
As the residents of the seaside town are currently staying indoors, the goats descended onto the picturesque town where they spend their time blocking traffic, grazing on people’s hedges, lazing on the grass and strutting by shops.
Manchester Evening News’ video producer, Andrew Stuart documented the mountain goats’ trip into the town by starting a thread on Twitter which caught everyone’s attention.
“According to local lore, the goats are descendants of a pair that were gifted to Queen Victoria by the Shah of Persia for her coronation in 1837,” BuzzFeed News noted. “Local historian Eve Parry, however, thinks that the goats gifted to Queen Victoria may have only been added to a pack that was already there. Either way, the goats are considered royal, known around these parts as the Windsor herd.”
Residents have noted that the relationship between the goats and the people of Llandudno has always been very complicated.
"It's kind of a two-pronged thing. So we love them. Everybody loves the goats, but they make an awful mess,” said Tim Garbutt. “They eat all of your nice plants and they s*** everywhere, quite frankly.”
“Goats don’t have the greatest odor,” added Simon Kendall, who has spent years defending his property from the Windsor goats. “They definitely don't use deodorant.”
TBH, we’re loving these goats that are owning this town! It’s nice to see nature back in action while the humans are indoors.
While we watch these goats live their best lives outdoors, be sure to do your part by being responsible and staying indoors to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Together we can #FlattenTheCurve!
