A Man Was Arrested For Buying A Plane Ticket To Send His Wife Off, Rom-Com Style

It’s actually a legit crime!

Have you ever watched a rom-com and got to the scene where the guy or girl is running through the airport just to catch the love of their lives right before they board the plane at the gate?

Or perhaps that scene where the couple are saying goodbye to each other right by the boarding gate?

Have you ever wondered how that was possible? With the strict airport rules, did both of them have to buy a ticket just to say goodbye? We know they’re just movies, but we have many questions about these scenarios.

Despite what they show us in movies, getting a plane ticket without actually boarding the plane could get you arrested.

A 27-year-old Singaporean man was recently arrested for misusing his boarding pass to send off his wife!

According to the Singapore Police Force, the man had entered the transit area of Changi Airport but had no intention of departing Singapore after sending off his wife at her boarding gate.

The Singapore Police Force posted about the offence on their Facebook page and added that since January, 33 people have been arrested for misusing their boarding passes.

“The Police would like to remind all passengers that the transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places,” the post read. “Passengers who enter the transit areas with a boarding pass should only be there for the purpose of travelling to their next destinations.”

“Those who misuse their boarding pass to enter into the transit areas, with no intention to process to their next destinations, are liable for an offence under the Infrastructure Protection Act,” the post continued. “The offender may be prosecuted in Court and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $20,000 (RM) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.”

So remember, instead of following a rom-com’s lead, it might be a better idea to say goodbye to your loved one(s) by the entrance to the departure zone instead of getting a ticket to say goodbye at the boarding gate!
