Now, we’ve heard of strange combinations before - tom yum and green curry ice cream, chicken rice tea, mustard ice cream, strawberry sambal, the recent meat-flavoured ice cream… the list goes on and on.
We’ve found a new and weird combination, and we’re really not sure what to think about it.
Ready to hear it? Mayonnaise-flavoured ice cream that’s covered in white chocolate.

Mayonnaise? Yes. White chocolate? Yes. Ice cream? Yes. All together? That doesn’t sound good to us on any level.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Japan has created just that.

The Calorie Monster Cherio Creamy Mayonnaise-flavoured ice cream was recently unveiled in Japan that boasts a complex mix of cookie, white chocolate and mayonnaise.

The ice cream is composed of a white-chocolate center that’s surrounded by the mayonnaise-flavoured ice cream, which is then encased in a white chocolate and cookie crumb shell.

If you’re wondering why this unique ice cream is called the “Calorie Monster,” it’s probably because each bar of ice cream holds around 307 calories – that’s the equivalent of having a baked potato with sour cream or a little less than a full cup of bubble tea!
Those who have tried the ice cream since it dropped have varying opinions of it.
“If you eat it with the white chocolate, it’s not so bad,” said one person. “But when I tried eating just the ice cream part, all I could taste was mayonnaise, and it stayed in my mouth as an after taste.”
“I tried the mayonnaise ice cream yesterday and it was delicious,” said another.
“It only tastes a bit like mayonnaise and mostly like white chocolate,” said yet another person. “So as a white chocolate ice cream it’s pretty good.”

We’re still skeptical about this new ice cream flavour but if you’re keen on trying it, put Japan on your travel list (once we can travel again that is) cause they’re available at convenience store and supermarkets for just 140 yen (RM5.45).
