If you're a die-hard Game of Thrones fan, you've probably noticed that a key player has been missing since Season Six. If anything, he's been living up to his name—Ghost.
Well, he’s not going to be missing for long because Jon Snow's direwolf, Ghost, is making his long-awaited return in the eighth and final season. That's right, Ghost is coming back!

Despite the fact that the direwolf would have most likely come in handy during confrontations with the White Walkers and undead polar bears, Ghost was barely mentioned in Season Seven.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, VFX supervisor, Joe Bauer, said, "Oh, you'll see him again. He has a fair amount of screen time in Season Eight. He does show up."

Joe explained that the lack of direwolves in the last season might have had something to do with the fact that regular wolves aren’t easy to work with.
"The direwolves are tough because you don't want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways," he said.

Ghost was supposed to make earlier returns. The wolf was originally set to appear in Jon's biggest battle yet but as director Miguel Sapochnik told Business Insider, Ghost was "an incredibly time consuming and expensive character to bring to life".
Now that we know Ghost is coming back, what about Arya Stark's direwolf, Nymeria?

Nymeria made an appearance in Season Seven and she’ll most likely show up again too. But while Joe didn’t comment about her fate specifically, he was clear about Ghost.
"Ghost does show up, and he does some ... he's very present and does some pretty cool things in Season Eight," he said.

Ghost coming back, Sophie Turner saying that fans will be split, Kit Harington letting us know that not everyone will be happy with the finale... somebody give us Season Eight already!
