After 2007’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets, fans of the Nicholas Cage adventure movies will be glad to know that something new from the National Treasure franchise is currently on the way from Disney+.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently spoke to Collider about plans for the future of the franchise which includes a National Treasure series and the possibility of a third movie.
“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen,” Jerry explained. “Hopefully they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active.”
“The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast,” he continued. “It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”
But what about National Treasure 3, you ask?
Well, according to the producer, the movie that’s been highly anticipated for more than a decade now, is still in the scripting process.
But fans can expect to see the upcoming National Treasure series first as the series is further along in development.
“The film version is being written right now,” Jerry said. “The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”

There’s currently no word on whether the original cast including Nicholas Cage, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha, will return in either the series or in the third movie.
As for the plot of the series, that’s still a mystery that’s yet to be solved.
