A photo of the outrageous receipt from Maggie's Restaurant circulated on Chinese social media. A spokesperson for the restaurant first claimed that the photo was fake, saying that they didn't even serve some of the dishes on the receipt. Owner and master chef, Sun Zhaoguo, later confirmed that they did indeed serve the super expensive dinner to eight guests - a VIP from Dubai and his friends.

Staff of the restaurant spoke to reporters and told them that the outrageous prices were "impossible" and that the restaurant did not charge nearly as much as was listed on the receipt.
Sun Zhaoguo however clarified that the 20-course dinner served was a privately-tailored for the VIP guests and used expensive ingredients sourced from all over the country. He added that the whole meal was cooked by him personally which significantly added to the receipt.
