Whenever you travel on an airplane, you’ll see all these signs to ensure that you have not checked-in a power bank. There’s a reason for that and this woman found out the hard way.

A tourist was strolling outside Chiang Main International Airport when her backpack suddenly burst into flames!

In a video on the airport’s official Facebook page, it shows the woman throwing off the backpack in a panic as flames erupted from inside it.

According to Coconuts, the post was captioned, “Take a moment to imagine this happened inside an aircraft. This is the answer to why airlines are so strict about not allowing power banks on airplanes.”

After the woman throws off the bag from her back, the video shows the power bank slipping out and bursting into flames once again before spinning hazardously near a airport worker who jumps away in the nick of time.

Several of the woman’s possessions were damaged by the explosion but thankfully no one was injured in the incident.

Lithium-ion batteries, that are used in power banks and most rechargeable devices; are prone to overheating, catching fire and exploding.

As noted by the airport, it is highly dangerous for these devices to be checked into a passenger’s check-in luggage due to these reasons. If a power bank catches on fire in the cargo, no one would notice until something seriously wrong happened on the flight.

So, if you or someone you know is travelling anytime soon, be sure that your power bank is with you in your carry on luggage and NOT in your check-in! Share this with someone who needs to know!
