Have your parents ever told you to that playing too much on your phone will make your fingers weird? Did you scoff at them? Well, they are most definitely right.

After spending an entire week-long vacation playing video games on her smartphone, a woman from  China recently found herself unable to use the fingers on her right hand!

The woman from Changsha, in China's Hunan province, had reportedly taken a week off from work and spent all that time playing on her phone. The only time she had ever put down her phone was to go to sleep.

She started experiencing severe pain in her right hand after a few days but she kept playing until she found she could no longer flex her fingers and they had become stuck in a phone-holding position.

As if that wasn't already worrying, the woman only sought medical attention at a local hospital after the fingers on her right hand became completely paralysed.

After examining her hand, the doctors determined that the woman was suffering from tenosynovitis - an inflammation of the fluid-filled sheath (called the synovium) that surrounds the tendons.

Her condition, tenosynvitis, is usually caused by immense strain from overuse or repetitive usage of a particular joint. In the particular case, the strain was the result of the woman clasping her phone for several days in a row.

Luckily, the doctors were able to administer treatment and she soon regained full control of her fingers.

Although the doctors were able to treat the avid gamer, they warned that the symptoms of tenosynovitis may vary from case to case. The doctors advised that people who are constantly on their phone to put them down from time to time to give their joints a chance to relax.

Lesson learnt. Be sure to give your fingers a rest once in a while!
