While we’ve been staying home to help stop the spread of COVID-19, malls and stores have been closed to discourage people from leaving their homes.

But with stores closed and people home, there is no one around to take care of all the merchandise and property inside the stores and malls.

Now, with the CMCO in place, malls and stores are opening their doors once again, to rather shocking (and gross) sights.

Brace yourself.

Recently, pictures of mouldy leather goods at a department store have been making its way around the internet.

Twitter user @IqbalSheikAli shared pictures of shoes, bags, wallets and belts that were covered in mould due to the fact that they’ve been left untouched during the MCO.

Internet detectives quickly went to work and identified the department store in question as Metrojaya Suria Sabah. The department store however was quick to respond to the pictures and immediately began measures to disinfect the store and replace whatever leather goods that had been affected.

The department store explained that the pictures that had been taken were meant for internal use before they opened to the public.

“There are various reasons how the goods came to be in that condition,” they said. “We are still in the process of investigating this.”

“We take it very seriously in cleaning and disinfecting our stores to ensure a safe and healthy experience to our valued customers,” the department store noted in a separate post. “Metrojaya Suria Sabah is now undergoing a thorough cleaning process by our dedicated staff and will be ready to welcome customers in a few more days!”

Today, the department store shared that their premises “is all cleaned up, sanitized and looking great!”

We’re definitely glad that the department store was able to clear up all the infected goods and we’re super impressed by their timeliness in sorting out the mould issue!

Well… now you know what happens to leather goods when it’s been left untouched… These are definitely images that will be burned into our brains forever.

While malls and department stores are now open under the CMCO, please be sure to stay home if you can, and practice social distancing and good hygiene if you’re going out!
