As we all know by now, the world is currently under lockdown to help stop the spread of COVID-19, but some countries have slowly started loosening their lockdown measures.

Because of this, new SOPs have been put in place to ensure that people practice social distancing.

In the Netherlands, a restaurant has has introduced “quarantine houses” to help the public ensure they maintain social distancing protocols.

Mediamatic ETEN, a restaurant in Amsterdam is now offering guests their very own personal quarantine greenhouses to sit in while they are served a four-course vegetarian menu.

For now, the quarantine greenhouses are only being offered to family and friends of the restaurant’s staff under a trial service. According to the restaurant’s website, all upcoming reservations are sold out.

The small glass cabins can accommodate two to three people and it offers a classy outdoor dining experience during these hard times.

The restaurant’s waiters wear gloves and transparent face shields, and they use a long board to bring dishes into the glass cabins so as to ensure that there’s minimal physical contact with the customers.

“It’s super-cosy, it’s really cosy, it’s nice and the food is delicious,” said Janita Vermeulen, who was invited to a trial dinner with the roommate.

The organisers of this project have called it ‘Serres Séparées’ (Separate Greenhouses) because they say it sounds better in French.

“We are now learning how to do the cleaning, how to do the service, how to get the empty plates out again in an elegant way, so you still feel taken care of nicely,” said Willem Velthoven of Mediamatic.

Privacy, cleanliness and social distancing? We’ll take it!

We’re definitely on board with these quarantine greenhouses if this is the new normal at restaurants.

While that maybe the case in Amsterdam, us over in Malaysia don’t have quarantine greenhouses just yet so be sure to keep practicing social distancing and stay safe!
