And Just Like That… new HBO series after Sex in the City

Ask your mum or older cousins and they probably know quite a bit about Sex in the City. It’s one of the most famous TV shows back in the late ‘90s and early 2000s after six seasons and over 90 episodes.

The ground-breaking HBO series was set in New York City, following a group of BFFs in their mid-30s and early-40s, their inseparable friendship, dynamic personalities, and ever-changing love stories.

Almost two decades later, the ladies are back—older, wiser, but still walking through the streets of NYC in style with And Just Like That…

Yup! It’s a brand new chapter for Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda (Samantha’s out of the picture now but we’ll get to that later) as they navigate through their complicated life, love, and friendship in the Big Apple once again, now in their 50s.

Whether or not you’re a fan of the original gal gang, here are some reasons why And Just Like That… could be the new cult favourite.

The Sex and the City legacy continues

Michael Patrick King from the original show is back as the executive producer. Sex in the City aired on HBO from 1998 to 2004 with a total of 94 episodes, 54 Emmy nominations (seven wins), and 24 Golden Globe nominations (eight wins) in the bag!

But the show didn’t stop there. The ladies returned in two box office hits in 2008’s Sex and the City and 2010’s Sex in the City 2, with the former grossing over US$415mil (RM1.7bil) and later US$294mil (RM1.2bil) worldwide.

While a third movie didn’t happen, it naturally turned into a sequel for the series instead because we just can’t get enough of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte!

And Just Like That… picks up 12 years after Sex in the City 2 with 10 glamorous episodes of the ladies, who are still as tight as ever after going through so much together back in the 2000s.

We follow the familiar characters in their new lives

They may be at different stages of their journey now that they’re practically going through a mid-life crisis. Carrie still rocks a different bag and hat nearly every time you see her, Miranda is still the serious one of the bunch, and Charlotte remains sweet as always.

Early episodes also welcome familiar faces like Carrie’s husband John a.k.a. Mr. Big, the married couple Anthony and Stanford, and other recurring characters who’ll be making a cameo later in the series for a sense of continuity.

Now, don’t worry, Samantha didn’t die but the show does address her absence. She apparently decided to part ways with the group and move to London for work with no intention of staying in touch.

We find out how to dress in style even in your 50s

The fashion and outfits were one of the best features about Sex in the City and it’s certainly not missed in And Just Like That… especially since Carrie lives and breathes fashion.

The style spotted by Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and the rest of the cast is so significant that they created a whole Instagram account dedicated to the costumes!

Check out these incredible works by the show’s talented designers and stylists.

The cast is more colourful than before

Sarah Jessica Park plays Carrie Bradshaw.

Cynthia Nixon reprises her role as Miranda Hobbes.

Kristin Davis is back as Charlotte York Goldenblatt.

Sara Ramirez is Che Diaz, a podcast host and stand-up comedian.

Sarita Choudhury is Seema Patel, a high-end real estate agent.

Nicole Ari Parker’s Lisa Todd Wexley is a documentarian, who befriends Charlotte.

Karen Pittman plays Dr. Nya Wallace, who’s Miranda’s graduate school professor at Columbia University.

Also not forgetting, Chris Noth’s Mr. Big a.k.a. Mr. Carrie.

Mario Cantone is Anthony Marentino.

Evan Handler plays Harry Goldenblatt.

The late Willie Garson is Stanford Blatch.

Cathy Ang plays Lily Goldenblatt.

And Alexa Swinton is Rose Goldenblatt.

There’s plenty more where that came from so don’t miss And Just Like That… premiering now On Demand!
