New at photography but feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing? Fumbling with your camera and taking weird, blurry shots? We’ve been there too.
Luckily for you, we’ve got a list of common mistakes newbie photogs tend to make and some solutions you can try out.
Oh, and if you feel like you’re already turning into a pro, you can enter HUAWEI’s NEXT-IMAGE Awards, which can land you a whopping US$20,000(RM82,722)! Check out the details at the end of the article.
#1 Not knowing how to take pictures with moving objects
Are you trying to take a picture of fast cars moving? Is your subject dancing? Then use burst shots—this will allow you to capture multiple pictures of the same scene. Once you’re done, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.
Besides that, you can increase the shutter speed to capture fast moving objects. You can also try to create nice light trails using slow shutter speed.
#2 Taking photos of people with the wrong camera settings

Although most of us like to use auto settings for everyday photos, in some extreme situations it may not be the best option for you. The general rule of thumb is that if you’re taking photos in the dark, set the shutter speed to be longer and the number of apertures to be lower, and vice versa if your location has strong lightings.
#3 Not keeping your hands steady
Some people just have naturally shaky hands, and this may result in an unstable shot. What you can do is use both your hands to hold the phone closer to your body. If you extend your arms too far you will tire yourself out and cause your camera to shake.
#4 Being unaware of your surroundings

The background of your picture is just as important as your subject. You don’t want to accidentally take a picture where there’s a dumpster behind them, or one where it looks like something is growing out of their head!
#5 Taking a picture of someone with their back against the sun and their faces come out dark

Don’t feel too bad about this because everyone has probably done it! Instead of doing this, learn up on how to get good lighting. For example, to avoid the glaring light of the sun you could opt to find a shade for your subject. Besides that, you can also touch any points of the screen before you take your picture. Your phone will make adjustments accordingly to brighten the faces of your subjects, though sometimes they will come out as too bright due to overexposure.
#6 Not reviewing your pictures

Take some time to review your pictures during a shoot. This will help you figure out what you can improve on, and you won’t have to waste time re-doing the photoshoot on another day.
