If you didn’t know already, baby owls are one of the cutest animals around. We’re probably biased but we’re here to give you another reason to love baby owls.

Baby owls sleep face down because their heads are so heavy that their bodies physically can’t hold its weight!
Isn’t that just the cutest!
In case you didn’t know, all babies (including human babies) are born with heads that are too big for their bodies. Baby owls’ heads however are extra big and heavy and as they grow into it, they sleep facing down.
According to IFL Science, adult owls sleep standing up when they’ve fully developed but younger owls struggle with the weight of their heads so they have to lie down to sleep.
The National Audubon Society – a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to conservation, confirmed this as well in an article saying:
“Keeping their talons tightly gripped on a branch, the owlets lie down on their stomachs, turned their heads to the side, and fell asleep. Their naps are short, and when they are asleep, they do not like to be awakened, even to be fed.”
That’s something we totally relate to!
