First, let's get one thing straight, EVERYONE who uses Instagram edits their photos in one way or another. But some stars actually edit photos that have ALREADY been edited.
Their digital handiwork doesn’t fool everyone though, especially not Celebface, an Instagram account dedicated to highlighting the truth behind those perfect celebrity photos that flood our Instagram feeds.
With a 633k-strong follower count, Celebface compares Instagram photos shared by stars including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian with the original images snapped on the red carpet or for magazine shoots.
They point out how the images have been edited to slim down waists and sculpt jawlines and cheekbones before being shared on Instagram, via side by side comparisons, supplemented with short looping video clips that make the almost unnoticable changes waaay clearer.
Take this selfie of Kylie Jenner as an example. On the left is the image as Kylie posted it on her Instagram feed, and on the right is the image as it appeard on Snapchat:

At first glance, the images look almost identical. But when they’re mashed into a GIF, you can see a few minor tweaks: Kylie’s eyes are lightened, her lash line is slightly slanted upwards and the bottom half of her face and hair have been pulled in.

Here’s another, it’s Bella Hadid on the cover of Allure that was without a doubt edited before being published. On the left is the version Bella posted on her feed, while on the right is the version posted by the photographer. Again, at first they look the same.

But if you look really closely, you’ll notice that Bella’s version has the same eyelash lift Kylie used, and the back of her neck is straighter.

According to Anna, the 24-year-old girl who manages the account, the objective of Celebface isn’t to hate on these celebs. She said “This is the page for people who use Instagram every day and think celebrities are perfect. But nobody is perfect. Celebrities are ordinary people”.
