With over 7,000 positive Covid-19 cases reported today, Malaysia is on a long path to recovery.

Even though we’ve had more than a year to adapt to the new norm of SOPs, social distancing, wearing a mask and more, there are still some who try to find ways around these safety procedures.

One couple in India tried to do just that by getting married in mid-air to “escape Covid restrictions.”

Investigations have been launched into the couple who decided to hold their wedding for 170 guests in a plane, mid-air, in a bid to get around the country’s Covid restrictions.

Videos of the wedding hit the Internet and showed a huge crowd of maskless guests packed onto a SpiceJet plane that is said to have taken off from Mudrai, Tamil Nadu, where weddings are limited to 50 guests.

India’s aviation authority launched an investigation on the celebrations aboard the Boeing 737 after footage of the wedding went viral with many slamming the couple for their “restriction flouting”.

The pair’s exchange of vows reportedly took place directly above the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple where the bride and groom were originally meant to be married.

Airport officials shared that they were “totally unaware about the marriage ceremony which took place mid-air.”

Speaking to the Indian Express, the airline’s spokesperson noted that the plane was booked from Madurai to Bangalore by a travel agent for a trip after a wedding.

The airline said that the couple were thoroughly briefed about SOPs and protocols, and were told to follow the rules.

“However, despite repeated requests the guests did not follow the guidelines,” a statement said. “The airline is taking action as per the rules laid.”

India’s death toll has passed 300,000 this week with hospitals and cremations continuously overwhelmed and severe oxygen shortages recorded across the country.

As we all know well by now, all SOPs and protocols have been put in place for our health and safety.

Though this may have been an incident in India, please do not be irresponsible and follow the SOPs thoroughly, no matter where you are.

Together we can flatten the curve again.
