Winter has come and gone for Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as the duo have called it quits on producing the highly anticipated Star Wars trilogy that was set to debut in 2022.

If you weren’t aware, David and D.B. were supposed to be the ones to usher in the post-Skywalker era with a new-start story that would have staked out a new frontier for the franchise.

According to Deadline, the Emmy-winning pair cited their packed schedule for being the reason that they had to walk away from the project.

“We love Star Wars,” the pair said to Deadline. “When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything.”

“There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our [other] projects,” the duo said. “ So we are regretfully stepping away.”

“David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers,” said Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy. “We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

After the disappointment that was the final season of Game of Thrones, fans of both the Star Wars and GoT franchises are both happy and frustrated to see the duo exit the upcoming trilogy.

Do you think it was a good move for David and D.B. to step away from the Star Wars trilogy? Let us know your thoughts!
