Ancient dinosaur tracks have been discovered by scientists on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. They date back all the way to the Middle Jurassic period! This was during a time when Scotland was much warmer than it is now, and dinosaur existence was at its prime!

Thanks to the fossilised prints, scientists could classify at least two kinds of dinosaurs based on the tracks – sauropods and therapods. Sauropods are the long-necked cousins of Brontosaurus, and Therapods are the sharp-toothed cousins of the T-Rex.

Approximately 50 footprints were found at the location, where a combination of drone footage and software was used to produce models of the fossilised tracks by the researchers. Although the change of landscape and impact of weathering made it a lot tougher to classify the footprints, the scientists were able to use clues like “shape and orientation of the toes” to differentiate between the two species.
