Drivers Who Do Not Stop At Red Lights Will Be Fined RM2000 Or Sentenced To Jail

It’s becoming increasingly common to see vehicles simply running red lights even though we all know that’s extremely dangerous.

Now, those who choose to not stop at red lights will be issued a RM2,000 fine or could even serve jail time!

The Royal Malaysia Police Force (PDRM) recently launched the Red Light Operation aka Ops Lampu Isyarat Merah that is set to take place from now until 31st December.

According to Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Azisman Alias, there has been an increase of offenders this year with 52,170 summonses issued from January to November for running the red light.

Of that, 26,764 offenders were motorcycles, 20,751 were cars, 2,208 were lorries and 2,447 were other vehicles.

Any individual who is found committing an offense may be fined RM2,000 or sentenced to up to six months in jail.

The director also reminded all vehicle users to be careful on the roads and to always follow traffic signals correctly for everyone’s safety.

Running a red light is never okay. Though it may seem like an easy option, it’s definitely dangerous not just for you but for those around you, and now, you could even lose RM2,000 for it!

In case you don’t remember, red means stop, yellow means slow down and green means go.
