All over the world, people and governments are taking extra steps to ensure the safety and health of the public. So far, many events, concerts, sports and more have been cancelled to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Now, an expert is warning the public about another “high risk” location, the gym.

Dr Norman Swan, a medically qualified journalist, has advised gym enthusiasts all over the world to be extra cautious while working out at the gym.
According to the doctor, the gym is considered a “high risk” area because they are usually covered in sweat which causes surfaces of the gyms to be damp and create a perfect environment for the virus to spread.

“Dampness is a bad thing for spreading germs,” Dr Norman noted. “You’ve got these big blokes pumping away and you never know, one of them might be a super spreader.”
Now, if you’re worried about going to the gym, the doctor says that you still may do so.
“It doesn’t mean you stop going to the gym,” he said. “You’ve [just] got to be super careful at the gym. You’ve got to make sure you wipe down (the equipment) before and after use.”

Dr Norman has also advised those who do go to the gym, to avoid steam rooms as the room will not have a temperature that’s high enough to kill any viruses or germs.
If you’re still heading to the gym, be sure to use hand sanitisers while working out as well, the doctor noted.
And if you’re coughing or sneezing, it’s better to avoid the gym altogether until you’ve fully recovered, he added.

At times like these, it’s better to take extra precautions when it comes to your health and safety. You can always work out another day…
Be sure to always wash your hands and avoid crowded places! Only wear a facemask if you’re sick and if you are, stay home so you don’t spread your germs.
Share this with your friends who love the gym!
