A farmer has hit pay dirt – literally, in the best way!

While working on a patch of land, he found a very valuable diamond!

Lakhan Yada first noticed the diamond when he was digging up a handful of earth in the plot he rented in Panna, India.

According to Times of India, the farmer first thought that he had found an unusual pebble but after rubbing it clean, he realised that it was actually worth a lot more!

Lakhan then took the rare jewel to a diamond officer who verified that it was indeed a real diamond. A not just a diamond, a 14.98 carat diamond.

After having it appraised, the precious gem was auctioned off for over 6 million rupees (RM331,032), much to the farmer’s delight!

When asked how he was going to spend his new fortune, he shared that he would not go for “anything big” but he would instead save the money for his children.

“I am not an educated person and I’ll put the money in a fixed deposit to ensure my four kids get good education,” the farmer said.

Lakshan did however allow himself a small treat. He used some of the money from the sale to upgrade his means of transportation and got himself a motorcycle that cost 100,000 rupees (RM5,517).

“I bought the motorcycle because my nephews insisted,” he said. “I was happy with my bicycle.”

The farmer has decided to continue digging the rented 10x10 patch of land and may have its lease renewed.

“I hope to get another diamond,” Lakshan shared. “I’ll work on it for a few more months, perhaps get the lease renewed.”

Lakshan is not the only one who has found a diamond recently, three other men have also found their own diamonds over the past 10 days.

This definitely is the find of a lifetime for the humble farmer!

We hope he finds another diamond!
