Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was arrested yesterday afternoon by 1MDB task force officials on charges of corruption and abuse of power involving RM42 million.
He was brought to the Magistrate’s Court this morning where he pleaded not guilty after the four separate charges were read to him in court, in front of the High Court Judge, Datuk Mohd Sofian Abd Razak.
The court granted a bail fee of RM1million in two sureties for the former prime minister, with RM500,000 paid this morning and the remainder to be paid by 3pm next Monday.
Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s two passports were also surrendered to the court and if found guilty, he could face a maximum jail time of 20 years and up to 5 times the value of the gratification.
He posted a video statement apologizing to all Malaysians yesterday on social media.
