A false statement has been making the rounds recently, saying that GST tax will be abolished on 1 June following the victory of Pakatan Harapan government in GE14.
Additionally, the fake news also mentioned that new taxes will be imposed during the first two years of Pakatan Harapan’s ruling, and that SST will only be reintroduced in 2020.
But what is GST and SST, you ask? Here’s the breakdown…
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is imposed on users who use goods and services at every stage of the chain to consumers. On the other hand, Sales and Service Tax (SST) is regarded as a cost to the business, a one-level tax for which this tax is
only charged to the manufacturer only and cannot be claimed.
