With all these new pictures and footages, it’s hard not to get excited about the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones.

Fans are getting more anxious as the series finale draws near and Entertainment Weekly’s GoT special, isn’t helping.

EW was not only able to publish these stunning new looks from the series, they also got to sit down and talk to the cast and crew. And what they found out about the upcoming season is already giving us chills.

If you’re trying to avoid any kind of spoilers about the final season of Game of Thrones, we advise you to look away now.

According to director, David Nutter, “The fans will not be let down.”

“There are a lot of firsts in these episodes. There’s the funniest sequence I’ve ever shot on this show, the most emotional and compelling scene I’ve ever shot, and there’s one scene where there’s so many [major characters] together it feels like you’re watching a superhero movie,” he said.

As we all know, a big battle is impending. But just how big is it going to be? EW says, “It’s the season’s most ambitious entry – arguably the most difficult-to-produce episode in television history.”

As was teased in the first trailer of the season, we know that the great battle of Winterfell is near. The episode is expected to be the “longest consecutive battle sequence ever committed to film, and brings the largest number of GoT major characters together since the show’s debut episode in 2011.”

Co-executive producer, Bryan Cogman said, “This final face-off between the Army of the Dead and the army of the living is completely unprecedented and relentless and a mixture of genres even within the battle. There are sequences built within sequences built within sequences. David and Dan [wrote] an amazing puzzle and Miguel came in and took it apart and put it together again. It’s been exhausting but I think it will blow everybody away.”

When preparing for the big battle shoot, director Miguel Sapochnik attempted to find a longer battle sequence in cinema history, but he couldn’t. The closest battle he could find was the nearly 40-minute Helm’s Deep siege in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers!

It sounds like the big battle is definitely going to be historic! We’re excited but can’t help to be nervous about the fates of our favourite characters! What do you think will go down in the big battle in the final season?

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere at the same time as the U.S. on Monday, 15th April at 9am, exclusively on HBO (Astro Ch 411 / 431 HD).

There’s still time to catch up with season 1 to 7 which is readily available via On Demand!
