Being a driver of a ride-hailing service has its challenges–from safety risks to difficult customers. And if you’re really unlucky, you could risk encountering something supernatural too.

Recently, a local Grab driver crossed paths with a situation that feels like it leaped straight out of the pages of a horror novel. He received a payment of RM8 for his service, but somehow, the money turned into eight pieces of dried leaves shortly after!

The wife of the driver, Farah, shared the story on Twitter, and it has since gone viral, receiving over 19,000 retweets at the time of writing.

According to Farah, her husband had initially picked the passenger up near Pasar Gunung Rapat and was to drop her off at Jalan Hoover in Ipoh, Perak. During the ride, the passenger who was a woman, was acting strangely. She kept giggling and even chuckled when the driver hit a pothole.

"He picked up the passenger about 7pm and coincidentally near the area was our house and it was supposed to be the last trip, so he accepted the passenger's request. He then dropped off the passenger at about 7.10pm. The woman gave him the fare which cost RM8 in eight RM1's and my husband then kept the money in his wallet.”

"However, as he would usually transfer the money to another pouch after dropping off the passenger, he then had opened up his wallet and saw leaves (in it)," said Farah, according to The Star.

Many Twitter users believe that Farah’s husband may have encountered a ghost, but Farah prefers to believe that the woman was a real human being with the expertise in money manipulation—she also believes that her husband was hypnotised into accepting leaves instead of Ringgit notes.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first creepy incident that has happened to Farah’s husband.

Sometime last year, while Farah’s husband was working as a driver under Uber, he picked up an old lady. At first, everything seemed pretty normal. When he reached the destination requested, it turned out to be at a graveyard.

The GPS kept telling him to turn left into the graveyard, so he asked the old lady if he should continue going straight, to which the old lady replied telling him to keep going forward to an open area next to the graveyard.

When he reached that spot, he turned around to tell the lady that they have arrived, but he saw no one sitting in the back passenger seat. To make things even spookier, he hadn’t heard the sound of the car doors opening or closing—the lady seemed to have just… vanished.

Fortunately enough, Farah’s husband didn’t make any losses on the trip as the old lady had booked the trip using an Uber promotion code. Wah, ghost also know how to use promotion code these days.

Besides that, Farah’s unlucky husband encountered one other supernatural incident. While he was on his way home from a meeting one night, he stopped at a junction where a motorcyclist had also stopped. The motorcyclist turned to look at Farah’s husband, so he looked back, but found that the motorcyclist didn’t have a face!

The incident, which happened around 11pm, was the most frightening one for Farah’s husband, who suffered from a fever after that.

Three strange encounters in the span of two years is a lot. We definitely wouldn’t want to be her husband!
