After winning the Richest Man In The World title 18 times for the past 24 years, Bill Gates has finally been overtaken by the CEO and founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. Jeff, 54, is the first person in recent history to have a fortune of over RM400 billion.
Bill became the youngest billionaire in the world in 1987, shortly after Microsoft went public when he was just 31 years old. In 1995, he was the richest man in the world with a fortune of over RM50 billion.

Interestingly, there’s a very simple explanation why Bill is no longer the richest person in the world. And it’s not because of Amazon’s tremendous growth, but rather because he decided to give most of his money away.

In 2000, when Bill stepped down as CEO of Microsoft, he co-founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with his wife. The Foundation aims to improve the quality of life of people around the world.
