IKEA Malaysia Replaced Their Vanilla Ice Cream With Soya Ice Cream And We Have Mixed Feelings

Soya is great too but, why get rid of the vanilla?

If you guys are anything like us, then the only reason you agree to go to IKEA with your parents is because you get to eat the not-actually-Swedish meatballs and vanilla soft serve ice cream.

Well, you might want to sit down for this because IKEA’s latest announcement will definitely affect your life.

IKEA Malaysia’s official Facebook Page posted yesterday that they have replaced the vanilla flavoured soft serve ice cream with 100% plant based, dairy-free and gluten free soya ice cream instead.

IKEA explained that the move is part of a bigger plan towards a “more sustainable environment, one Soya ice-cream at a time”. Apparently, production of dairy milk is bad for the environment when you compare it to production of non-dairy milk (but it’s so delicious though!)

On the one hand, we’re totally for including lactose intolerant people and vegans cause everyone deserves to eat some ice cream. But at the same time, we’re also like “Why can’t they have both?”.

We should have been more prepared for this change, considering IKEA teased this on their Instagram in June:

Anyway, this totally divided the internet. Some people were not having it, like this Facebook user:

Some others agree with us in having both choices, like this person:

And several others were with IKEAs environment friendly initiative, like this person:
