Can you live without your phone for a year? Would you be willing to give up your phone for a year?

Recently, Vitamin Water launched a contest challenging participants to give up their smartphones and tablets for an entire year. And in a world where our phones are basically our lives, that's not an easy thing to do. However, the enhanced water company is ready to make it worth your while by offering a $100,000 (RM418,544)!

The #nophoneforayear challenge requires participants to go a full 365 days without using a smartphone! That means, no personal phone or tablet, and no use of other people's gadgets too! If the contestant manages to complete the challenge, they'll be rewarded with $100,000 (RM418,544)!

However, it's not as simple as signing up to enter the contest. First, you'll have to convince Vitamin Water that you're the right person to take on the challenge.

Thinking of joining this contest? Here's what you have to do.

First, you have to post a photo to Twitter or Instragram and tell Vitamin Water why you need a break from your smartphone. Don't forget to add #nophoneforayear and #contest in your caption! To those of you who are willing to take up the challenge, you only have until 8th January 2019 to enter the contest! One thing to note is that you won't be completely phone-free. Vitamin Water will provide the selected contestant with a "1996 era mobile phone" complete with a monthly plan for voice communication only. So you will have a mode of communication in case of emergencies.

Vitamin Water has confirmed that this contest is not a joke. Speaking to CNBC, brand manager, Natalia Suarez said:

"We don't think there's anything more boring than mindlessly scrolling through your phone, and this is an opportunity to take that stance against routine and give someone $100,000 (RM418,544) to do something uniquely awesome with their time."

The company has not yet released its complete list of rules but they have mentioned that the chosen participant will have to take a lie detector test before being awarded the grand prize.

Since the task of going a single day without checking your phone is incredibly challenging, Vitamin Water is also offering a consolation prize of $10,000 (RM41,854) if the selected competitor can last at least 6 months without using a smartphone.

And if you're wondering what classifies as a smartphone, to put it simple, "if texting is a pleasant experience or you can get on the internet, it's probably a smartphone."
