Initial D is definitely one of the most well-known anime series out there and while the street racing manga series was a hit, it might not be wise to have a reference placed on a public bus!
A tweet recently went viral showing an Initial D public bus in Japan and people on the internet found it funny and felt uneasy at the same time!
“There's a bus that makes me feel uneasy. I wonder if it's okay…” the caption wrote.
The public bus can be seen with the iconic Fujiwara Tofu Shop sticker on the side of it and it’s basically a bus version of the car that was driven by the series main character, Takumi!
Many Japanese netizens jokingly said that the bus might just start drifting, while others make comments related to the series saying, “wouldn’t it be safer because you’ll never spill your tofu”, “I can hear the eurobeat”, and more!
The "Fujiwara Tofu Shop Bus" is actually a special bus set up by the local government of Shibukawa City in Japan to promote tourism as a part of Initial D’s 25th Anniversary.
In the anime, the protagonist Takumi Fujiwara was trained by his father, Bunta Fujiwara and helped deliver tofu before sunrise every morning, developing his impressive driving skill over the years.
His father would also place a glass of water and ask Takumi to drive the car up the mountain without letting the water overflow in the glass to hone his driving skills.
The background of the story is actually located in Gunma Prefecture, where Shibukawa City is located.
If you’re still sceptical, the government ensures that the entire journey in the bus will be safe and there will not be any drag racing involved!
