At the age of 5, as a result of boarding the wrong train and falling asleep, Saroo awakened to find himself in Calcutta, a city notorious for its slums. Not long after, he wound up in an orphanage before being adopted by the Brierleys, an Australian couple from Tasmania.
Fast-forward 25 years later to 2012, and Saroo was finally reunited with his biological mother in Khandwa as a result of hour upon hours of searching for his hometown on Google Earth. Mind blown.
The girl who opened the world’s eyes to the horrors of war via Twitter

This 7-year old girl became the symbol of the tragedy befalling Syria through her tweets (with the help from her English-speaking mother) documenting her general calls for peace among other things from the besieged city of Aleppo.
Today, Bana al-Abed along with her mother, father, and two younger brothers have not only managed to survived the conflict in Syria, she has also been granted Turkish citizenship with the honour of receiving her ID card from the Turkish President himself.
The terminally ill man who got to do one of his favourite things in the world

Losing a battle with liver disease, Scott Widak did not have much longer to live when his nephew, Sean O’Connor, decided to use the Internet to get people on Reddit to send his terminally ill and down syndrome uncle a letter or card.
Days later, Mr. Widak was flooded with crates of letters. How many letters exactly? About 2,000 letters from all over the world according to Mr. Widak’s mother, Statia Widak.
