It’s July! That means National Ice Cream Month has finally started, and it can’t come at a better time as we despair over the end of the Raya festivities. Also, the sun has been a real scorcher, making eating ice cream all the more enjoyable.
For those who have no idea what we’re talking about… National Ice Cream Month isn’t just a hipster thing that some random person came up with as an excuse to have ice cream. It was designated by former US president Ronald Reagan in 1984. It was hipster before hipsters were hip.
Now that we have the boring history lesson out of the way, let’s get to something more interesting: unique ice cream flavours from all around the world! Let’s not be vanilla, eh?
Lobster ice cream (USA)

Sweet, creamy, and packed with chunks of… lobster. The creator of this ice cream flavour sure went to great depths to invent something new.
Cheeseburger ice cream (Venezuela)
Tired of being told you can’t have dessert before dinner? Well now you can have dessert AND dinner at the same time with this blend of burger meat, fries, cheese, and ice cream. Mmmm, yummy.
Breast milk ice cream (United Kingdom)

We’ve all heard how breast milk contains antibodies that can help prevent illnesses in babies but to make ice cream out of it is just absurd. To add to its ‘uniqueness’, the ice cream – known as Royal Baby Gaga – is made from donated breast milk.
Cardamom ice cream (Israel)

Traditionally used in savoury dishes, cardamom is an intensely aromatic spice. In Middle Eastern cuisine, cardamom is used in sweet dishes, which explains why you can find cardamom-flavoured ice cream.
We prefer cardamom in our curries rather in our ice cream, so we’ll have to pass on this one.
Wasabi ice cream (Japan)

From eyeball-licking to crying workshops, Japan is easily the leading country in all things weird. This truth extends to their ice cream as well with wasabi-flavoured ice cream.
But, it doesn’t stop there, Japan is also home to other bizarre flavours such as raw horse flesh, octopus with soy, squid ink, garlic, and snake venom ice cream.
Nasi lemak ice cream (Malaysia)

What happens when you can’t decide between having nasi lemak and ice cream? You have both. The nasi lemak ice cream doesn’t come with nasi, but it has all the nasi lemak condiments – yes, even the sambal – that Malaysians love.
This unique creation can be enjoyed at Skream Softserve in Alor Setar, Kedah.
Balsamic vinegar ice cream (Malaysia)

While we never thought we’d see the day where vinegar is used in ice cream, at this point in this list we’re no longer surprised. This smooth-textured and sharp-flavoured ice cream can be found at Foo Foo in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
