Many industries and economic sectors were affected heavily by the ongoing pandemic that has been around for over a year now.
With travel all over the world halted in an effort to curb the spread of the virus, air travel in particular was hit with many challenges.
However, despite the ongoing challenges, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has made us proud by ranking as one of the world’s top 10 airports in 2020!

In the latest global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey by the Air Council International (ACI), KLIA was named among the best in the world for passenger satisfaction.
KLIA scored 4.98 points out of five for the over 40 million passengers per annum (mppa) category in 2020.
The score is a significant improvement as the airport ranked 17th in 2019 with a score of 4.76 points.

According to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), the success is attributed to KLIA’s continuous effort in carrying out improvement initiatives despite being severely affected by the ongoing pandemic.
As domestic and international travel was restricted for a majority of the year, passenger traffic remained low with only 1.6 million passenger traffic recorded in February for the group.
Despite the setback, KLIA still forged ahead with mission critical projects which included the washroom refurbishment, formation of the operational excellence teams and the introduction of the exceptional people practice playbook - a dual language manual to guide its frontliners in their interaction with passengers.

MAHB group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh shared that KLIA’s achievement in the top 10 airports has encouraged them to push ahead with their pursuit for excellence.
“As a global airport operator, we are driven by the passenger’s confidence and satisfaction in our facilities and services,” he said. “At KLIA, we are prepared to safely welcome passengers with a heightened experience as air travel gradually recovers.”
“This year, passengers can look forward to an improved journey including shorter wait times and facial recognition technology that are part of our Airports 4.0 digital transformation,” he added.
The group also recently announced that it will be introducing private health safety screening services for passengers to enjoy faster clearance upon arrival.
MAHB hopes to restore passenger confidence by performing the Covid-19 swab test swiftly in comfortable surroundings.

The group chief executive officer shared that the group remains optimistic on the resiliency of the demand in air travel.
“We have seen strong revival when travel restrictions were lifted in previous times, and for that, we will continue to enhance our offerings.”
“Staying cognizant with the evolving demands of passengers and the aviation industry will help us stay ahead of the competition as we aim to be in the top five airports this year,” he added.
