If you’ve been around the Internet in the past few years, you would have definitely seen or heard about the adorable Shiba Inu who helped manage a roast sweet potato stand in Japan.

Sadly, Ken, the world’s most unlikely cashier, has passed away.

For years, Ken spent his days manning a roast sweet potato stand called Inu no Yakiimoyasan, in Sapporo, on the island of Hokkaido.

The adorable pup’s happy demeanor quickly made him popular fixture at the stand and many fans would flock to catch a glimpse of him during his working hours.

At the end of May however, Ken’s Instagram updated that Shiba Inu was feeling a little “sick” but fans were reassured that the canine would do “its best” while undergoing medical treatment.

On 5th June, an update shared that though Ken was not in tip top condition just yet, he had returned home with an “oxygen house” in tow.

Sadly, the next day, Ken’s owner shared that the Shiba Inu had passed away at the age of six-years-old and had gone back to his “favourite (sweet potato) shop”.

The update also thanked the public for all the love and support the canine had received during its lifetime.

Ken first rose to fame after his owner decided to set up a sweet potato stand to meet the rising demands for the hot tubers.

Shortly after launching the stand, the owner brought in his four-legged companion to help operate the booth and greet patrons.

Ken always greeted customers warmly and though not having any disposable thumbs took his chances at being a cashier away, the pup was ever present at the booth no matter the season.

The Shiba Inu was loved by all who visited the shop and many, including Lonely Planet, made their way to meet Ken firsthand and try the stand’s delicious treats.

We hope you’re enjoying all the roasted sweet potato and running your own stand where you are Ken.

Rest in peace to the goodest boi.

Did you ever get a chance to meet Ken at his stall? Tell us about it if you did!
