Technology has advanced in such drastic measures over the recent years that now families are able to “reunite” with their deceased loved ones through virtual reality.

Previously, a grieving mother was able to reunite with her deceased daughter through VR and now, a husband is able to reunite with his late wife.

A TV documentary from South Korea uses VR technology to help those who have lost loved ones to reunite with them and allow them to create a final precious memory with them.

Season 2 of Meeting You shared the touching story of how 51-year-old Kim Jung-soo was given one last chance to meet his wife through virtual reality.

After years of battling a serious illness, Jung-soo’s wife passed away and left him to raise their five children.

His one wish was to see “even just [his] wife’s shadow, one more time.”

The reunion however almost didn’t happen. Jung-soo’s hope of seeing his wife one last time was initially opposed by his daughters who didn’t want to dredge up memories of their late mother because it would be “too painful” for them.

The couple’s eldest daughter, Jong-bin, shared that they just wanted to move on and try to live happy lives after their mother’s passing, and that agreeing to their father’s VR experience would make doing so more difficult.

“‘It is my last wish,’ he said, that’s why we decided to allow him to see Mum again,” Jong-bin said.

Jong-yun, another of the couple’s daughters, agreed for her father to take part in the documentary because she remembers just how much of love he had for their mother.

“He would kiss her from time to time when working, when eating, or when watching TV,” she recalled. “Even when my mother was sick and lost her hair, my father would say that she was pretty and carried her around.”

Four years after his wife’s death, Jong-soo’s dream to meet his wife one last time, came true.

According to the Korean broadcast company, it took six months of preparation to make Jong-soo’s wish a reality.

From recreating various interaction movements to recreating his wife’s voice by combining an actor’s voice to make her sound as close as possible, Jung-soo was once again able to see his wife.

Upon entering the VR world and into a virtual house, Jung-soo was unable to hold back his tears.

When his wife appeared, the man broke down and began weeping - understandably of course.

Overwhelmed with emotion, he tried to fight back his tears and asked his wife: “Are you not in pain anymore?”

His children, who were watching their parents’ reunion from a monitor, were also seen crying.

Brb, crying.

It’s definitely great to see how technology can be used to reunite loved ones, even after death.

If you could, who would you like to meet one last time through VR? Let us know!
