When Malaysians talk about countries around the world worth visiting, we normally wouldn’t consider our own country as being highly recommended. We don’t have nice weather like European countries, or the kind of cleanliness and order Japan has.
But we should give ourselves more credit because Malaysia just made Mastercard’s Top 10 List of Most Popular Cities.

Every year, Mastercard ranks more than 160 cities round the world based on how popular they are with tourists. The survey factors in number of visitors in the city, how much they spend per day on average, and how long they tend to stay.

Kuala Lumpur ranked number seven on the list with 12.58 million overnight visitors in the last year. We beat Tokyo, Istanbul and Seoul! Well, we are one of the world’s best cities for street food.
Tourists tend to stay an average of 5.5 nights in KL, and spend about RM513 per day.

Bangkok, Thailand topped the list for the third year running with 20.05 million overnight visitors in the last year alone! Here’s the full list of the Top 10 Most Popular Cities:
