Does this happen to you? You’re in line at the check-out counter of your neighbourhood supermarket. And as you watch the cashier put the items belonging to the customer ahead of you into their reusable bags, you think “Oh man, I forgot my reusable bag at home.”

Well, Tesco Malaysia has launched a new campaign to help you remember… using money!

Tesco’s “unforgettable bag” campaign wants to encourage you to remember to use your bag the next time you go shopping by rewarding you with a 20-cent discount for each bag you reuse at Tesco! Each bag has either a turtle, fish or whale design and a barcode.

When you check out, simply get the cashier to scan your bag’s barcode to get the discount. And why turtle, fish and whale you ask?

Since every Malaysian throws away about 300 plastic bags a year, and more than 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean every year, we think that the 20-cent rebate isn’t the only great thing we get from reusing this bag!
